Just an Ordinary Day

Just a day, just an ordinary day… remember that song?

So, I thought that I’d give you a peek into a typical day for me. I’m always curious about other people’s schedules/routines, so I’m operating under the assumption that you’re curious about mine. Ha 😉

Here goes nothing!

6:45 Alarm goes off… roll out of bed, put contacts in, shower

7:10 Make bed, breakfast (to go) and iced coffee

7:20 Hair, makeup, get dressed

7:50 Drive to work

7:58 Arrive in parking garage

8:03-2:00 Work

2:00 Eat lunch

3:30 (This isn’t typical, but…) Hear fire trucks, look out the window and see smoke… AHH!

We seriously watched this for probably 20 minutes before the top floor erupted into flames. It was scary to watch- it was hard to tell if they were going to contain it before it got to the next house.

Sad 😦

4:35 Leave work

4:45 Stop at CVS for floss… yes, floss… thisclose to buying other random stuff, but tell myself no

5:00 Stuck behind an elderly man who can’t remember his ATM pin. After trying 3x, he gets out another card. The line is 7 deep at this point. Success.

5:05 Leave CVS. Not surprised to see that said elderly man is making a left onto Peachtree, and instead of waiting until traffic is clear on both sides, he pulls out and blocks 3 lanes of traffic until the other side is clear. Scary!

5:10 Early to yoga… happy because this never happens

5:30-6:45 Yoga

6:50 Walk over to Trader Joe’s to get the ingredients for Ameena’s Mango Tandoori Chicken Pizza.

7:10 Arrive home

7:20 Realize that I don’t have time to marinate the chicken for an hour, because you know, I’m busy doing things like not reading the book for book club and watching TMZ…

8:45 Pizza is ready!

I didn’t see any tandoori masala at Trader Joe’s, so I used the masala simmer sauce in its place. I also ended up baking the pizza for an extra 5 minutes- Trader Joe’s pizza dough is always unpredictable when it comes to baking time.

I cut myself two pieces, but went back for another one not long after this picture…

I loved this recipe. It was unique, easy to follow and DELICIOUS. Thanks, Ameena!

Off to watch the Olympics and get a good night’s sleep… I have been staying up way too late lately!

Hi guys! I intended to blog over the weekend, but well, I ended up just unplugging and enjoying the long weekend! My camera is full of pictures, but instead of this being one massive post, I think I’ll save some of them for later in the week.

So, it snowed in Atlanta on Friday afternoon. Sure enough, I got an email saying that the office was going to close early. I’ll take that!

View from the office…

And on the short ride home…

I came home to a delivery of gerbera daisies from my secret admirer Tobey! They’re gorgeous and they totally brighten up the apartment. Thanks, T ❤

The roads weren’t that bad, so we stuck to the plan and went to see Valentine’s Day. It was cute and definitely worth seeing if you like romantic comedies. And umm, Jessica Biel is so ripped in it! She always looks healthy & fit, but wow, she looks amazing in the movie.

Oh, I read that Julia Roberts made $3 million and she was only in the movie for SIX MINUTES. Insane.

Anyway, fast forward to today. Both Tobey and I had off for President’s day, so we headed to Cabbagetown to have brunch at Carroll Street Cafe.

I love this side of town- it’s so welcoming, yet full of charm and history. Now if only it were closer to work…

I ordered the Cabbagetown breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, and wheat toast.

I started with a soy au lait- coffee and steamed soy milk.

This hit the spot- I finished everything but the bacon!

I spent the afternoon cleaning, got my car washed (The car wash was packed post-snow storm!), and went to yoga. The cool thing about yoga classes at my gym is that they don’t have the following that the other group classes have, so I get a personal class almost every time!

I came home, showered, and made turkey burgers with feta and spinach. I divided a pound of ground turkey into three burgers, mixed in feta and spinach, and sauteed them for 15-20 minutes on medium-low heat.

On the side, I had mixed greens with Valdosta pecans (So good that the bag I got less than a week ago is gone already!) and ginger dressing.

Did you watch The Bachelor tonight? I still watch it even though I’ve already read the spoilers. It’s kind of fun to know what’s going to happen… but then again, I don’t like surprises!

Is it just me or is it really obvious who Jake is going to pick? He acts like such a gentleman around Tenley, and a little too comfortable around Vienna. Thoughts?

Anyway, I’ll definitely be back this week to recap of my favorite things from the weekend! I’m sorry that I haven’t commented on your blogs much this weekend, but I plan on catching up on your lives this week. 🙂

A Day of Eats

Oh, hello! This morning, I decided that I would take a picture of everything that I ate today. Boy, was it harder than I thought! I don’t know how you “blog everything” bloggers do it. 🙂

Normally, I bring oatmeal into work for breakfast. I brought pumpkin oatmeal today, but someone said something about bagels so I put that in the fridge for tomorrow. Free food tastes better! (Did I really just say that?)

I had a blueberry bagel from Einstein’s, with barney butter on top.

Later in the morning, I had a Kashi dark chocolate coconut bar. Have you ever tried one of these? So good.

For lunch, I had TJ’s nonfat vanilla greek yogurt with Kashi toasted berry crumble cereal on top.

I’m not sure why I didn’t bring an apple or something else for lunch? I definitely didn’t have enough to eat.

After work, I went to yoga. When I got home, it was after 8:00, so I snacked on a handful of these…

I intended to use them on salads, but we’ll see if any make it on to a salad. 🙂

For dinner, I made quick eggs and chopped spinach, mixed with a pearl onion. On the side, I had a toasted Thomas whole wheat bagel thin. Do you want some eggs with that? I definitely cooked too much spinach, but it tasted fine.

For dessert, I had a lemon bar from Trader Joe’s. These are so tasty.- they definitely taste homeade. The picture on the box is kind of deceiving- they look regular-sized, but they’re more like two bites!

I feel like my own mom, but I really didn’t eat enough fruits & veggies today!

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you love Valentine’s Day? Hate it?

I’m sort of indifferent about it. I don’t make plans weeks in advance, in fact, I just made a dinner reservation today. 😉 We’re going to see Valentine’s Day tomorrow, which I’m really excited about!

Off to finish some laundry and watch Real Housewives of OC!

Tin Skillet Time

Hey guys! How is it almost Friday again? I’m heading up to Nashville tomorrow after work. Do you have plans for the weekend or are you planning to relax? 🙂

I went to my FAVORITE yoga class after work. Seriously… it’s amazing. Karen complimented me after class for working hard and then actually relaxing and letting myself be in savasana. This might sound silly, but it actually meant something to me because I have been uptight and not sleeping well at all this week!

After yoga, Elizabeth, Lauren, Jennifer and I met at Tin Lizzy’s for dinner. Love this place- it’s pretty much a hole in the wall cantina that is ALWAYS busy. We had to celebrate the fact that Lauren and her fiance just bought a house!

I had one and half of these…

And one of these!

I just love the tin skillets. It’s rice with grilled peppers, onions. tortilla strips, queso blanco and salsa verde. Delicious and super inexpensive…

Oh, and more than a handful of chips and queso blanco were consumed. 😉

Do you have a go-to Mexican restaurant? I love Tin Lizzy’s, but my favorite fast food Mexican is definitely Chipotle.

Oh, how I love Thursday nights. It feels so good to know that the weekend is so close. 🙂

I love Thursdays even more now that I have Karen’s yoga class to look forward to. I used to take her class at Crunch and I’m so glad that I’ve recently reconnected with her. I enjoy all types of yoga, but I jive with her style of teaching so well.

First off, she’s from South Africa so her accent is so calming. I don’t know if that’s the right way to describe it, but that’s the first word that came to mind.

Second, she’s really in tune with what her students want/need. Her classes are so balanced- challenging, but not so intense that it’s frustrating. She spends probably ten minutes on the final savasana, which I appreciate so much. I definitely fell asleep for a few minutes at the end tonight, but left feeling so refreshed. Yoga nidra, anyone?

Do you practice yoga? If so, what do you love most about it? If not, what is holding you back? I really love the awareness that yoga brings to me- it’s the best strengthening workout I have ever done, yet it also allows me to test my limits and learn so much about myself. Oh, and I can attest to the fact that yoga helps you to sleep better. 🙂

For dinner, I had leftover TJ’s mushroom & cheese flatbread. The flatbread was pretty small- I thought I’d still be hungry after I ate this, but it was surprisingly rich and flavorful.

For dessert, I had a fudgy, under-baked brownie. I used Trader Joe’s version of No Pudge brownies to make these the other night- I can’t remember if they are lowfat or nonfat, but they’re pretty good. I added a carton of vanilla nonfat yogurt & a 1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips to the mix and baked them for ~20 minutes.

The fact that I didn’t leave them in for long enough makes them even better… 😉

A scoop of ice cream went on this right after the picture!

I’m going to make every attempt to go to bed by 11 tonight… I have been staying up way too late lately. At least it’s almost time to sleep in the weekend!

Monday Funday

Oh, Monday!

I ran errands during lunch and after work, so the day went by pretty quickly. After work, I stopped at UPS to ship back a Christmas gift (I was waiting until I found a new gym bag to return the one that I got for Christmas!) and then I headed over to Sephora.

I got this really cool fragrance set last month. It included samples of 12 different perfumes, and a coupon to redeem for a full size bottle of whichever one you like best. i’ve been wearing the same perfume (Chanel No 5) for the last 3 or 4 years, so it was definitely time for a change! Do you wear the same perfume every day or do you switch it up?

After trying one per day, I narrowed it down to either Stella McCartney Nude, or Flower by Kenzo. I ended up with…

Flower by Kenzo!

Next, I headed over to yoga class. I joined this gym after falling in love with their class schedule- they have so many yoga classes and my favorite yoga instructor from Crunch picked up a class there.

After stopping at Trader Joe’s, I got home just in time for The Bachelor. I made dinner while I watched Jake win over the ladies with his words awkwardness.

I sauteed that blend of celery, carrots and onions with salt and parsley , let it simmer for ~10 minutes, and then added ground turkey. While that was cooking, I baked two peppers in the oven for 20 minutes at 375*.

Time to stuff the pepper!

It was simple & healthy- perfect for a weeknight dinner. The TJ’s vegetable blend was great; I’ll definitely buy it again and would love to make a soup with it.

Next, it was time for dessert while I watched the most dramatic rose ceremony yet.

Publix chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ice cream… the description says it all!

What’s your favorite brand of ice cream? I love Edy’s, but Publix is a close second.

Almost Friday! I love short work weeks… but who doesn’t?

Last night, I had dinner with my family at the Buckhead Diner. My sister and nephew are in town from PA, so of course I was really excited to see them. We all love the diner, so that was an easy choice.

It’s a total throw-back and makes you feel like you’re on a cruise ship… not your typical diner food, though!

My mom and I always share a salad to start…

Mesclun greens and goat cheese fritters with apples, walnuts, and raspberry vinaigrette:

The goat cheese fritters are so good… they (we?) fry everything in the South!

I had the grilled mahi mahi tostada with white cheddar stone ground grits, guac, and pasilla chile sauce. It never fails me! It’s important to get a little bit from each layer onto the fork to get all of the flavors at once. 😉

Mom and Colin… he’s 9 weeks now and says “agu.” Not sure what that means!

Which chin do you like better? So cute!

If you live in Atlanta- Deka Athletics in Buckhead is having a trunk sale through Saturday. I had never been there before today, but my boss gave me a gift card for my birthday (It’s on Saturday!) and urged me to go today.

I only had 10 minutes before yoga, but I got a good look and they had a bunch of really nice workout stuff. HUGE racks of clothing at 50% off.

I got a little matchy matchy here- all Puma- navy yoga capris, a really comfy shirt and a matching sports bra. The capris were $25, the shirt was $17.50 and the sports bra was $19… not bad!

What, doesn’t everyone stand in front of the mirror and take pictures of themself? 🙂

Are you into workout clothing? I used to just wear cotton t-shirts and whatever shorts I could find, but I’m starting to appreciate nicer materials! I like TJ Maxx for nice, inexpensive workout clothes.

Snooki time!
