It’s been 24 hours since I posted and let me tell you, I’ve taken a lot of food pictures since then! Last night, Tobey and I headed over to Eastland Cafe. It’s a nice little neighborhood cafe that’s always busy and serves great food.

We shared the pizza of the day, and I had a spinach salad. I felt like I was Italy because we had the pizza first, salad second!

The pizza hit the spot- we got it without the olives, since olives are one of the only foods that I don’t like. What food(s) are on your no list?

The crust was thin, but not like flatbread… it had just the right amount of sauce… and they were generous with the toppings. Just the way I like it!

The spinach salad was a lot smaller than I expected. It was okay, but the blueberry dressing and orange sauce didn’t have much flavor, so it was pretty plain tasting.

After dinner, we went home, watched TV, and got a good night’s sleep.

This morning, we stopped at Bongo Java for coffee. I got a cafe au lait with nonfat milk and dark roast coffee.

Then, it was time for brunch at Marche. (We usually go and get coffee while we’re waiting for a table at Marche. ;)) I love this place- it’s in the neighborhood and so wonderful.

We got the pears and camembert on crunchy whole wheat to start.

I pretty much dominated this one… oops… it’s my favorite! They always have a fruit-cheese-toast combo on the menu, but it varies each time we go.

I ordered the crepes with cauliflower, radicchio, onions, mozzarella, and roasted garlic cream sauce.

You can never go wrong by ordering the crepes there- they aren’t exactly light, but they’re so good! I finished about 2/3 of the plate and then passed it to Tobey to finish.

I left Nashville around 4:00- just in time to have dinner with my family! I stopped at my parent’s house on the way home, and my mom made one of my favorites: beef stroganoff!

My portion on the best 70s plate ever:

And a red velvet cupcake for dessert!

Not exactly a light 24 hours of eating, but everything was really good and I’ll get back to normal eating tomorrow. (I laughed as I typed that; I didn’t mean that statement in a “I’ll start my diet tomorrow” kind of way!)

Are your weekend eating habits different from your weekday eating habits? I eat pretty much the same stuff all week- I like to save eating out for the weekends!

Dinner Party at Morton’s

Happy Saturday! I’m in Nashville and we’re just hanging out, watching Anthony Bourdain/No Reservations. Have you ever watched it? I never have before- I guess I didn’t know what I was missing! It’s really interesting.

I drove up to Nashville yesterday after work- it was raining, so there was more traffic than normal.

You guys, the amount of fireworks stands cracks me up. At one point in the drive, there’s even one in between the highway. It reminds me of something you would see at South of the Border. What is with fireworks being so popular in the South? 😉

I stopped, and somehow a Twisted Frosty ended up in my hands. It was really good- it had Oreo pieces blended into it. Are Frosty’s good or what?! They remind me of being a kid. 🙂

When I got to Tobey’s, we put together a little cheese plate before we went to dinner. I also had <1/2 of this glass of Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc… my favorite!

We met some friends for dinner at Morton’s.

Our one friend works there, so he set aside one of the board rooms and put together a dinner for five couples. It was really decadent and really fun!

They brought out some delicious appetizers- I had a bacon-wrapped scallop, a mini crab cake, and a shrimp. I had the Palm Beach Passion martini to drink- it was made with vodka, pineapple, pomegranate liquor, and mint.

We were told to choose a salad, an entree, and a dessert. Phew- this was intense! I started with the chopped salad.

I had the filet as my entree, and we shared a bunch of sides. This might sound crazy, but I haven’t ordered steak in years! I normally order fish or chicken, but wow, this was good.

The mac and cheese was so indulgent- it was made with four cheeses and had a spicy kick to it. I also had mushrooms, potatoes, and asparagus, but didn’t end up eating everything.

Next, I had the hot chocolate cake for dessert. That pool of chocolate was like fudge- so rich! I just had a few bites… I was definitely full at this point!

It was fun and I felt lucky to be treated to such a nice night. 🙂

After that, we went to Mad Donna’s in East Nashville. The live band had just finished, so it was pretty quiet there. I didn’t have anything else to drink at this point (I had that martini and probably two glasses of wine with dinner)… I was full & happy!

Off to dinner. Enjoy your Saturday/pre-Super Bowl night!

No Place Like Home

“There’s no place like home. There’s no place like home.” -Wizard of Oz

Hey guys!

Elizabeth and I just got home after a fun weekend in Nashville… just in time for Desperate Housewives! We stopped at my parent’s house on the way home to help my brother celebrate his 14th birthday.

We left Nashville at 4:00 and just a couple of hours into the drive, it got so dark. Got to love the time change! There’s a full moon out tonight… have you ever heard that a full moon encourages strange behavior? I’m not sure if that’s true or not!

The party went well last night. My costume was a tad ridiculous… it was so unflattering and uncomfortable! Within 15 minutes of putting it on, I cut the sleeves, rolled over the neckline, and took the hat off. Ha! I prefer cute costumes for Halloween, but my friend Danielle really loves ridiculous costumes so she picked these out.

The inflatable spider that we put up in the front yard…

‘Tis the season-

Champagne + elderflower = necessary in order to put my costume on…

My sleeves were so short and tight… looking at this picture makes me laugh!

Two more Munchkins (Danielle and Steve):

Rubber Munchkin shoes:

Go Elizabeth!

Dorothy and Dorothy…

Lemon drop shots… cheers!

I can’t believe that it’s November already! Crazy. Time to get ready for the work week…

Good night!

Happy HalloWeekend!

I couldn’t help but laugh when I typed that, because it reminded me of my sorority days when we would volunteer during HalloWeekends at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Have you guys ever been there? It’s the most ridiculous place on Earth. We would pack into a few cars, drive a couple of hours, and work in their haunted houses for the weekend. They would give each of us $200 or so to donate to our charity. Good times!

It has been the perfect fall day in Nashville. My boyfriend lives here, so I visit often, but this is Elizabeth’s first visit. We went walking in the neighborhood this morning, so I’ll give you a tour of East Nashville…

The fire house…

Top O’ Woodland, a Bed & Breakfast…

I love that it’s decorated for Halloween!

Sweet 16th Bakery, which is definitely worth visiting if you’re ever in town…

Pumpkin cream cheese bars? Yes, please!

I got the egg and cheese casserole on a cheddar biscuit. So good!

Some treats to go… they are waiting for us in the fridge!

The little hot dog stand that could…

I’ve never “eaten” there, but it’s normally pretty busy…

Margot, a great French restaurant…

Bongo Java, the coffee shop…

I got an iced coffee with soy milk and Tobey got a tamarind palata.

It’s finally fall in the South!

We’re having a Halloween party tonight, so I thought that I’d leave you with a preview of the front yard…

More to come! The trick or treaters are arriving, so I need to put my costume on. I just heard a little boy say, “You have a spider in your yard.” So cute.

I hope that you enjoy the night!

Rumours in Nashville

Hey! I wrote up this nice little post after work today, but when I hit publish, it disappeared. Elizabeth and I were headed to Nashville for the weekend, so I didn’t have time to re-write it. Bummer. Here’s a little recap of tonight:

Elizabeth and I at Rumours in East Nashville

Love vermentino…

Monster Mash drink…

Don’t take my picture!

Are you dressing up for Halloween?

I’m going to be a Munchkin from Wizard of Oz. It’s not the most attractive costume, but my friend really wants to do it, so I’m just going to go with it.
