After work on Friday, I scooted on up to meet my brother and parents at Barnsley Gardens for the night. Barnsley Gardens is in Adairsville, GA, which is about 60 miles north of Atlanta. I left at 6:30, hoping to miss rush hour… but, I don’t think there is such a thing as avoiding traffic when you’re leaving any city!

I got there just before 8:00. It was pitch black, and although there were signs, I felt like I was looking for a needle in a haystack. This place is really remote and pretty far into the country!

I had a glass or two of wine with my parents before we walked over to the Woodlands Grill for dinner. Funny story- I didn’t finish my glass of wine, so I walked to dinner with it. We sat down in the restaurant and I was looking at a text from my friend about the zebra who was loose on a highway in Atlanta. When I looked up, my glass had been filled with water. Moral of the story? Don’t text and bring your wine to dinner. 🙂

I had a sauvignon blanc/chardonnay blend with dinner.

I ordered the scallops, which were served with ricotta ravioli and sauteed spinach, in a red pepper cream sauce. The scallops were cooked well and the sauce was perfectly light & creamy, if that makes any sense at all.

For dessert, we shared the homeade cookie with vanilla ice cream, and creme brulee.

We got back to the cottage, watched some Olympics, and then crashed out.

My parent’s dog, Lulu, was along for the night. For some reason, my parent’s room was super hot and our room was super cold. In the middle of the night, I heard Lulu crying in my parent’s room. I checked on her and sure enough, she was panting for her water, which was in our room.

On Saturday morning, I went looking for Lulu before we went out to explore. Where did I find her? Sleeping under the claw foot tub! I guess she was tired from pacing around the night before. 🙂

Our cottage:

The rice mill, where a lot of parties and receptions are held…

We walked through the museum and learned a little bit of history about the estate. The original manor was built in the 1800s by Godfrey Barnsley, for his wife and family.

From what I understand, the manor was destroyed by a battle during the Civil War, and later, a tornado.

I don’t think that the ruins get any direct sunlight, because it’s really cold and there were patches of ice inside.

I wouldn’t want to walk around here at night- it’s pretty eerie and I’ve heard that there are frequent sightings of spirits in the manor & gardens. Have you ever seen any spirits? Do you believe in ghosts/spirits?

We headed back over to the Woodlands Grill for lunch.

I had The General salad- grilled chicken, romaine, blackberries, raspberries, apples, almonds, eggs, tomatoes, and balsamic vinaigrette on the side. I also had a crunchy roll that was right out of the oven.

We packed up after lunch, and headed back to my parent’s house. It was a gorgeous day… snow last weekend and 60* yesterday? Spring must be right around the corner, right? My mom and I had dinner in town and watched the Olympics before I headed home, which was just before the strike of midnight. 😉

Another beautiful day today, so I’m off for a walk in the park!

A Day of Eats

Oh, hello! This morning, I decided that I would take a picture of everything that I ate today. Boy, was it harder than I thought! I don’t know how you “blog everything” bloggers do it. 🙂

Normally, I bring oatmeal into work for breakfast. I brought pumpkin oatmeal today, but someone said something about bagels so I put that in the fridge for tomorrow. Free food tastes better! (Did I really just say that?)

I had a blueberry bagel from Einstein’s, with barney butter on top.

Later in the morning, I had a Kashi dark chocolate coconut bar. Have you ever tried one of these? So good.

For lunch, I had TJ’s nonfat vanilla greek yogurt with Kashi toasted berry crumble cereal on top.

I’m not sure why I didn’t bring an apple or something else for lunch? I definitely didn’t have enough to eat.

After work, I went to yoga. When I got home, it was after 8:00, so I snacked on a handful of these…

I intended to use them on salads, but we’ll see if any make it on to a salad. 🙂

For dinner, I made quick eggs and chopped spinach, mixed with a pearl onion. On the side, I had a toasted Thomas whole wheat bagel thin. Do you want some eggs with that? I definitely cooked too much spinach, but it tasted fine.

For dessert, I had a lemon bar from Trader Joe’s. These are so tasty.- they definitely taste homeade. The picture on the box is kind of deceiving- they look regular-sized, but they’re more like two bites!

I feel like my own mom, but I really didn’t eat enough fruits & veggies today!

What are your plans for the weekend? Do you love Valentine’s Day? Hate it?

I’m sort of indifferent about it. I don’t make plans weeks in advance, in fact, I just made a dinner reservation today. 😉 We’re going to see Valentine’s Day tomorrow, which I’m really excited about!

Off to finish some laundry and watch Real Housewives of OC!

Annie’s to the Rescue

I got such a good night’s sleep last night… it was nice not having to wake up to an alarm! I got a million practice tests out of the way today… oh, I love personal days.

Annie dropped off lunch today! I had Annie’s classic mac & cheese with peas. I always keep a box of Annie’s in the pantry- ready in a snap and pretty good!

Next, I took some of this:

And put it on top of this:

One apple, sliced and tossed with cinnamon. I added 1 tbsp of oats, microwaved it for 1 1/2 minutes, and topped it with 1 tbsp of Barney Butter.

Fast forward to tonight–

I thought I’d have some champagne to spice up the practice tests…

I got out a bottle from Domaine Chandon that we got in February because well, what was I waiting for? 🙂

Are you going away for Thanksgiving? What’s your favorite Thanksgiving dish?

I’m staying in town this year. We normally meet up in Kiawah (South Carolina), but my sister and brother-in-law are staying in PA since they just had a baby, and well, I don’t have any time off so I’m staying put!

I love pumpkin pie… maybe I’ll make one if Angie will send me her recipe. 😉

Springs Yoga

Hey hey! How was your day?

My day ended on a positive note, so I’m excited to tell you about it! Ever since my gym closed in September, I’ve been interested in joining a yoga studio (in addition to hot yoga).

So, I came up with a little plan- I’m going to make a list of all the studios in my area that have introductory rates, and try them all! After that, I’ll join the one that suits me best. If you’re ever interested in joining me on this little adventure, just let me know. More on the studio that I tried tonight in a minute…

Can you guess what I had for lunch? Field of dreams greens with a Morningstar chik patty and rice & beans from last night, topped with Wishbone light parmesan peppercorn ranch dressing.

On the patio…

When a girl wants a skinny cow, you’ve got to give her a Skinny Cow.

So, Springs Yoga was the first studio to bat on my plan. I went to the the 5:45 Yoga 2 class with David, which is described as “a faster paced, free flowing series of postures.  No two classes are exactly the same while exploring new postures that will challenge the body and mind.  Invigorating!”

There were about 10 people in the class, which was perfect. I liked the personalized feel of it- the instructor knew my name and helped me make adjustments a handful of times. Hot yoga is always so packed that you don’t really get personal attention (and there is nothing wrong with that), so this was a nice change. Is that the case with hot yoga everywhere? Ashley, I thought of you when we went into headstand. I’m not there yet, but one day. 😉

Now you guys know why my pictures are blurry… I have a really basic camera! Which camera do you use?

What a day! I really can’t believe that it’s only Tuesday. Work was crazy because in addition to my normal work, I am the back-up dancer for a guy who is out on vacation all week.

I got out my camera this morning to show you guys what I normally eat for breakfast: oatmeal at my desk.

In the plastic-

  • 1/2 c oats
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 c canned pumpkin
  • 1/4 c skim milk
  • 1 tbs graham cracker crumbs
  • ~1 tbs chocolate chips
  • 1 tbs Bees Knees peanut butter

As far as lunch goes, some days I go home for lunch and other days I eat at my desk. I rarely go out for lunch- It’s a huge money saver and I don’t really enjoy eating out at lunch. Today was an eat at my desk kind of day. I grabbed some salad (no dressing) and a mini vanilla bean cupcake from a meeting, and heated up a Lean Cuisine. Not the most nutritious, but it did the trick so I just went with it.

Do you guys ever have those days when you’re so busy all day that you just want to go home after work and relax? I was so tempted to do that, but I had my yoga bag in the car and I knew that I’d feel much better if I just went to yoga tonight. So from not yoga to hot yoga I went. 🙂

Ahh… 90 minutes of bliss. It was 7:30 by the time I got home, so I wanted something quick for dinner.

On the plate-

  • brown rice
  • black beans
  • sea salt
  • cumin
  • paprika
  • farm fresh egg

My co-worker was nice enough to bring in some eggs from his farm! He told me that the eggs you buy in the store are already 2-3 weeks old, so these will stay fresh for much longer. I love it when he brings in food from his farm- watermelon, tomatoes, you name it and he will bring it!

Do you see what I have on the background? TMZ… I love that show and think that Harvey Levin is hilarious. Do you ever watch it?

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a piece of cake to eat. I saved a piece from last night and sent the rest home with the birthday crowd!
